Greetings from down under!

My 9.5 hr flight itself from Hong Kong to Melbourne wasn't as bad. Considering it was my 6th flight within a month, I was well versed with the routines on board. Australia is however, a lot more different from all the other countries. It's more strict, and the landing form is a whole lot longer. It took me an hour to get my baggage and clear customs, which is pretty fast considering others had to wait a whole lot longer. I was so glad I decided not to bring any food, or else it would have taken me another 3 hrs to get through as I would have to declare it. And no, they don't spray you on the plane w/ pesticides (my dad warned me they might). Apparently they stopped that a few years ago.

I was supposed to find a swedish Alex on the plane who's a friend of my aunt's, and is arriving to Melbourne on the exact same flight from hong kong. what are the chances of that, eh? I have never met or seen a pic of this person before. All I knew was, he is the same age as me, and he's a tall blonde swedish guy. I tried to look around the plane for this mystery guy. There is a few guys who fit my aunts description of him, but all these guys had some girl with them. I decided to hold off and not approach any strangers. There was this one guy who I thought might be him, who stood right beside me during the baggage claim, but I chickened out and didn't ask. Lucky i didn't though, cuz i would have made an ass outta myself (I've done this many times approaching strangers, while loking for my "uncle" in Hong Kong). Alex turned out to be a brunette, and not as tall as my aunt described and we cleared customs roughly around the same time.

Melbourne is not as hot as everyone warned me it would be. It's currently their summer and there has been a drought the past 2 years. apparently it rained the last few days, and the weather is similar to hong kong...chillier at night.

Things here are great. My 2 little cousins are so cute. My aunts and uncles have been taking turns entertaining us. Since we've been here, all we've done is eat, eat and eat. we had a late dinner the first night after arriving and ate some duck, crab and congee. We went for dim sum yesterday in Vietnam town, and did a bit of shopping at Chadstone (one of the biggest malls in Melbourne). My Uncle Steve took us out to the Crown Casino last night after, and we tried our luck in the slot machines. He gave me a $50 bill to play in the slots and I ended up winning $110 and I immediately cashed out the money, although my uncle encouraged me to keep playing. I'm not a huge fan of gambling. I prefer investing my money in shopping rather than risk losing it in gambling.

I drove for the first time on the right side last night. It's so confusing b/c the indicator, and steering wheel is on the right side of the road and u have to drive on the left. It took me a while, and i kept turning on the windshielf wipers the first few times, instead of indicating left, but i got used to it and somehow got us home safely. Today, we'll be spendign some time with my uncle Steve, aunt Alex and the kids. Tomorrow is Xmas already. Time sure flies by! We're stepping out for lunch now. Will try to post later when I have more time.
