We just got back from a 3 day trip up to the Northern Jungle in Chiang Mai. It was really gorgeous. We stayed with a tribe called "Lisor"the first night. It was a pretty amazing experience learning about this small tribe (there's only 250 members). Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. After a two hour trek with our packs, we arrived at their tribe and were all so hungry and exhausted. We ate and spend the night learing about their customs and culture, followed by a dance around the camp fire by the tribe members. They were all so excited about us coming, they wanted to teach us their special tribal dance. I realized more from the experience how I have two left feet when it comes to coreographed dancing. We slept in a shared house (all 15 of us) on a thin mat, with three blankets each and a mosquito net. It was freezing!!!

We left early the next morning and started our LooooooNNNNNG 4 hour trek to the elephant camp. I've gone on hiking trails before but have never done anything harder than this in my life. It was even worse than climbing the CN Tower. There were tons of hills and rivers to cross, and the absolute worst part would have to be a tie between climbingh this steep massive hill and crossing this lake/river on our bare feet while trying not to fall in the water with our packs on our back. There were tons of rocks in the water and they were so slippery! The water was up to our thighs. It was so painful and hard on our feet and extremely challenging trying to maintain our balance against the water current. I was just glad to make it out of that without being fully soaking wet.
We finished the trek off with a bath in the river. The water was so cold, but after 2 days of nature, it was nice to finally wash ourselves. This was followed by a 2 hr elephant treking ride. Kary and I lucked out as we were near the end of the pack and our mommy elephant had a baby elephant (2 yrs old) following us the whole entire time, keeping us entertained. So cute!!!
